Sugaring Prevents Ingrown Hairs

By: nimmaco

Ingrown hairs are also known as razor bumps or razor burn.  They can be caused by shaving or as a result of broken hairs typically caused during waxing.  When the hair is cut off or broken beneath the surface of the skin it can curl back and start growing inwards.  These ingrown hairs cause irritation to the hair follicle, which swells into a small red ‘bump’ that looks like a pimple.  The injured follicles are susceptible to infection, and over time these seemingly minor bumps can develop into permanent scar tissue.

Immediately after hair removal techniques, some pinkish bumps may appear which are due to the body’s short-term reaction.  These bumps may be uncomfortable or itch a little and usually go away within a day or two.

Bumps that develop a week or more after shaving or waxing are likely to be ingrown hairs. These ingrown hairs most often develop around the bikini area, and while they can be embarrassing, painful and noticeable, they are also preventable.

Prevent Ingrown Hairs with Sugaring

A key benefit of Sugaring is that it significantly reduces the overall incidence of ingrown hairs!

  • Modern Body Sugaring has emerged as the established technique for a gentle and less irritating method of all natural hair removal.
  • Sugaring is the most effective form of hair removal because it pulls from the root each time with no breakage.
  • Sugaring only adheres to dead cells so there is less trauma and minimal discomfort while removing hair and exfoliating the skin in the process, which also improves skin texture and tone.
  • It is estimated that at least 30% of hairs will break during waxing, increasing the incidence of ingrown hairs*. This percentage will increase further if clients are dehydrated as the hair follicles will be gripped tighter by the skin making them more prone to breakage.
  • Consequently, sugaring results in less discomfort, redness and ingrown hairs when compared to shaving and hot waxing.

Sugar Body Scrub

We recommend that it is very important to exfoliate the skin prior to each sugaring session in order to reduce the possibility of ingrown hairs, and for ongoing skin care.  We highly recommend our Sugar Body Scrub as an exfoliant which is excellent for unclogging pores; promoting healthy, speedy turnover of skin cells; balancing the skin’s oil production; purifying the pores of toxins and dirt; smoothing skin tone; reducing ingrown hairs-  as well as razor bumps - and creating a radiant, fresh overall look and feel!

The Sugaring Cane Body Scrub combines sugar with almond oil and a luxurious range of natural scents and extracts.  Choose your favourite from:  Mango, Vanilla, Lime, Coconut & Orange.

 SOS Roller

For the treatment of ingrown hairs we also highly recommend our SOS Roller.  The SOS Roller is effective in treating and removing ingrown hairs but is gentle on the skin. It delivers a powerful peeling which prevents inflammation and allows the hair to grow freely through the skin surface.  The SOS Roller comes in 2 handy sizes and can be used all over the body: face, arms, legs, armpits, bikini line, intimate area, neck, chest and back.
